Can any plane kept hanging over earth so that it travels distance covered by earth in that period?

As earth is rotating on its axis. It is covering approx 1666 km /hr at equator . So if any thing is just kept above earh and bring back again after say one hour will not it cover 1666 km and be away from the starting point by this distance? If no why? Serious answers please.
