When I was in my teens, my mom used to beat me up, because I didn't help her with housework?

I was 14 and I was in 10th standard, I used to study most of the time, and my mother used to beat me up with shoes, brooms anything she could find,and she used to starve me, sometimes for upto days,I was a shy and quiet kid,not rebellious as I am today, can I be blamed, if I feel bitterness against my mother sometimes?
